BelEsprit® Conflict Assessment Tool

The following is the initial phase of the BelEsprit® Conflict Assessment Tool. This survey is designed to measure how individuals deal with and define conflict, specifically in the work environment. Currently, we are collecting data beyond our client base, and combining this with further research on power relationships, gender and culture. Please take a moment to fill out the survey as thoroughly as you can.

You may also pass this link to friends, family and colleagues as during this phase we welcome a broad cross-section of the population. All information and final scores are confidential and will be forwarded directly to the respondent upon completion of the analysis.

About Non-violent Conflict
Choose the one statement below that best reflects how you view nonviolent conflict.

1. I get very uncomfortable when there is an argument or dispute about to unfold. Any hint of a confrontation makes me uneasy and I prefer to walk away.
2. It is better to just smooth over disagreements before they get too heated by agreeing to do what it takes to move on.
3. All disputes can easily be resolved when people put aside their differences and share an open, honest discussion.
4. All arguments, disputes and differences are win-win opportunities for creative change.
5. When there are differences of opinion or if I am being challenged, I prefer to meet the confrontation head on.

The Work Environment
Choose the one statement that best describes your attitude at work.

1. Phrases like "If you have a minute", "If you don't mind", and "If you are not too busy" are polite ways to initiate projects, meetings, and/or discussions.
2. I prefer letting others decide meetings and schedules, especially when I'm busy. Just tell me where and when to show up.
3. I like an open door policy at work. People dropping in and chatting, impromptu meetings, or discussions around a mutual workspace are ideal.
4. I'm really busy at work and prefer to meet only when it is worthwhile.
5. I don't like impromptu or unstructured meetings where I am required to openly share my ideas or concepts.

Conflict in the Work Environment
Choose the one statement below that best defines your work environment.

1. Overall, it is a very quiet work environment. Confrontations or disputes are generally avoided.
2. There is a lot of conformity and management sets the tone for the rest of us. We generally follow along and ask very few questions.
3. The work environment is very open and many of us freely share ideas and opinions. Our teams constantly interact making sure everyone is on side with their established goals.
4. We constantly challenge each other and debate many topics. It is a dynamic and creative environment and we are often surprised at what we come up with.
5. There are generally a lot of ongoing disputes (minor and major) and things can get quite heated. This often interferes with work.

Choose the one statement that best describes how you would change your work environment.

1. I'd prefer to have everyone stay out of each other's way and not have to deal with anyone's personal issues or concerns.
2. It would be ideal to have more structure, stronger management and less spontaneity around meetings.
3. It would be better to have more spontaneity and more time to interact freely with peers in order to share ideas, set goals and establish a good rapport.
4. I'd prefer to have a more dynamic work environment where people can openly debate and argue their opinions.
5. I'd like there to be less time dedicated to meetings, sharing ideas and/or interaction, and more time dedicated to individual work.
